What is an expedition kayak?
Velley gives a useful clarification about the term “expedition kayak” or “expedition style kayak”. Design
The shape of the body is neutral. It has neither fish-form (widest at the front of the cockpit) nor Swedish-form (widest at the stern). This gives the kayak an extremely predictable behavior and sense of balance, regardless of the conditions in which you paddle.
The bottom transitions smoothly from shallow to moderate V-shape for good primary stability of the kayak. The rocker is moderate, just as necessary for good maneuverability, without compromising on the length of the waterline and accordingly, speed.
Comfort is superb. The seat is comfortable and the backrest is adjustable. Behind the backrest you have enough space to lie on the stern when rolling. The cockpit height at the front is large enough for a comfortable bent knee position. The knee braces will not slip out during a maneuver or a roll. The cockpit is long enough for people with long legs.
