Scotty rod or camera mount bases offer a variety of mounting options. Depending on the place and your preferences.
The internal mounting base has the advantage of not sticking out over the deck of the kayak. This makes it easy to load and adjust the sit-on kayak on the roof rack bars. It’s closed at the bottom so water can’t get in. The base is also capped.
The mounting base is most often installed with pop rivets.
